After the Iranian revolution, the university attained a public status, and was renamed Al-Zahra University, after Fatimah Zahra, the daughter of Muhammad prophet of Islam. The university offers degrees in 67 areas, including 6 PhD degrees. Zahra Rahnavard was appointed as chancellor of Alzahra University on 23 September 1998.
